Silly Sausage in Meat Land Review
Silly Sausage in Meat Land has a fun and unique game mechanic. This free-to-play game for iOS (iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch) and Android from Nitrome provides an enjoyable gameplay experience although the freemium elements may bother some.
Silly Sausage in Meat Land is an iPhone game about a dog named, you guessed it, Silly Sausage. Silly Sausage must travel through Meat Land, which has surprisingly little meat in it, collecting gems. Due to the title, I wondered why our canine companion wasn’t scooping up meat products, but gems fits the greedy payment model. Silly Sausage traverses the environment by stretching his body an infinite distance until hitting another surface, turning and weaving all the way. This allows the player to make some pretty unique shapes with Silly Sausage. Along the way, you will also find simple obstacles, like spikes or moving spinning blades, which can cause problems for our stretchy protagonist. If Silly Sausage’s body is extended across the path of a spinning blade, and the blade hits that part of the body, Silly Sausage is done for. This may seem fairly simple, but as you’re mainly controlling Silly’s head, it is quite easy to forget about its bottom.
Dying in this iPad game wouldn’t be such a pain if the checkpoints were not locked by payment barriers or insanely priced checkpoints. These checkpoints may seem affordable at first, but if you purchase them one at a time you will be quickly out of gems, and it is fairly easy to run out of them as each checkpoint requires more and more gems, but you do not earn any more gems in harder sections. This makes it so that, eventually, players who do not spend money hit a wall that they can no longer pass unless they are insanely skilled (and lucky), or they pay.
Aside from this, Silly Sausage in Meat Land is a fun Android game. The stretchiness of the dog makes for some thoughtful gameplay, and although I would’ve preferred to see some more meat than just in the background in a place called meat and, it’s alright. It is fairly disappointing that blades cannot hit Silly Sausage as he is retracting his bottom, as this would’ve created yet another factor to consider.
Whatever way you choose to tackle Silly Sausage in Meat Land‘s payment model (watch ads, buy a single in-app purchase, or grind and collect gems), its core gameplay mechanic is a boon. This game lives up to its name as silly. It’s also challenging so good luck stretching out your luck or else you’re dog meat.
Summary: Silly Sausage in Meat Land is a silly arcade game from Nitrome. It's a cute yet challenging game that features a sausage dog. Its free-to-play elements may be fair to some while some may think it's not. Nevertheless, try it out for yourself.
