Frozen Synapse Review
Last year, Mode 7 Games released Frozen Synapse on Google Play via the Humble Bundle route. Not long ago, this turn-based tactical strategy title was part of another Humble Bundle, just when we named it as one of the top Android strategy games; that’s why we immediately grabbed the opportunity to avail of the bundle and review this awesome game.
Frozen Synapse was originally launched as a PC strategy game a few years back and its arrival in the Play Store was a success. Fans love the simultaneous tactical combat where both the players and their enemies plot out the movements of their squad all at once, then watch the action unfolds in a few seconds of spurts.
This turn-based strategy game puts you in a position of a planner in command of a team of soldiers. In both the single-player campaign and multi-player game mode, gamers are tasked to guide their troops in a vivid science fiction setting. Instruct your squad to finish infiltration, escort, and assassination missions. Pick from a number of units with unique special skills to implement your directives. Take note, however, that keeping your soldiers alive is a tough assignment as the A.I. is sly and clever at the same time. Make sure to flex your strategy muscles as it will definitely be tested.
At the beginning of every round, both parties come up with their plan of actions for their squad. Thereafter, all of their movements are performed concurrently. Each twist and turn will be a calculated risk so ponder your steps a few times – or test them out first – before hitting the “Prime” button, which plays out your actions.
Who says that turn-based strategy games are boring? Well, they might have not played Frozen Synapse. This indie game includes a bevy of single player missions and cross-platform multiplayer with several game modes. The graphics will catch your eye as it may be likened to a virtual reality game seen from an overhead vantage point.
Newbies who are new to the game or genre might find Frozen Synapse a bit complicated. I would suggest for them to exercise patience as they gain experience and knowledge of the game’s elements. It may look daunting at first but once you played out a few rounds, you will be delighted. You can also watch the tutorial videos which will guide you from the basics to the more advanced situations. Compared to other strategy games on Google Play, this Android game is more engaging. If you are in search for an easy turn-based multiplayer, you might want to think again.
Frozen Synapse is a deep strategy game that might require you to make way in its complex interface. Stick it out and you will be satisfied. I guarantee you that this Android game is one of the premium tactical strategy games you can play on your tablet. It has a solid gameplay with a killer soundtrack as well. If you weren’t able to ride on the previous Humble Bundle, you will need to shell out $9.99. Don’t worry, it’s worth it.
Summary: Frozen Synapse features an impressive gameplay with in-depth turn-based combat. This Android game also offers an excellent soundtrack and a fantastic control scheme, not to mention the deep single-player and multiplayer game modes. Frozen Synapse is really one of the best strategy games for Android.
